The Left Democratic Alliance has asserted that the interim government must take full responsibility for the ongoing political crisis in the country.
The remarks were made during a meeting of the alliance’s central coordination committee held on Sunday (May 25) at the central office of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).
According to alliance leaders, the interim government has created the current crisis by engaging in decisions that exceed its mandate—such as delaying justice for the 2024 mass killing, initiating a humanitarian corridor agreement with Myanmar, and leasing the New Mooring Terminal at Chattogram port to a foreign company.
They emphasized that the government must ensure visible progress on justice for the 2024 massacre and initiate minimal necessary reforms to conduct a credible national election by 2025, followed by the peaceful transfer of power to an elected government.
The leaders criticized the interim government for alienating most political parties by aligning itself with a particular faction, thus deepening the crisis.
In the official proposal passed during the meeting, the alliance questioned the authenticity and purpose of the recent news—circulated in media and social platforms—regarding the resignation of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
They noted that the announcement was not made by any official government spokesperson but rather through a new political party leader speaking to the BBC. This, they argued, has intensified public suspicion that the resignation may be part of a calculated image-recovery project for the Yunus administration.
The proposal also denounced a statement by the Chief Advisor’s press secretary, which claimed that critics of the government are aligned with fallen fascist forces and are working at the behest of foreign powers.
The alliance rejected this rhetoric as an attempt to shift blame for the government’s failures onto others. They noted that such statements echo the tone of authoritarian regimes.
The alliance called on the government to consider all constructive criticism and to govern based on consensus among political forces.
